Our History....
Columbus Art Memorial was founded over 80 years ago by Carmine Tirri. Mr.
Tirri was an Italian immigrant,
who, at the turn of the century decided to come to the United States. After
serving the call for his newly adopted country in World War I, Mr. Tirri apprenticed
in New York City. He graduated from Cooper Union Art of New
York, and subsequently moved to Columbus, OH. In 1922, Mr. Tirri opened Columbus
Art Memorial at the corner
of Thomas and Glenwood. In 1932, operations where moved to 904 West Mound
Street. Here, Columbus Art Memorial grew in both size and reputation. Upon
his untimely death in 1950 at age 56, Christina Menduni took
over as management.
It is here, that the current owner and president of Columbus Art Memorial,
Carmine Menduni, cut his first stone at
the age of eight. As time passed, he become more and more involved in the
fabrication of memorials. Throughout
high school and college, Mr. Menduni remained very active in the day-to-day
operations of the company. In 1970, Carmine Menduni graduated from college
with a Bachelors of Commerce and Finance from Franklin University. He began
to work at Columbus Art Memorial full time. In 1972, having outgrown its current
facilities, Columbus Art Memorial moved its sales operations to 766 Greenlawn
Avenue and its production to 606 West Broad Street. In
1975, at the age of 56, Christina Menduni passed away. Carmine and Louis Jr.
Menduni assumed control of the company.
In 1985, Carmine Menduni became sole owner and president of Columbus Art
Memorial, Inc. Mr. Menduni has the unique honor of being a certified Master
Craftsman. Also, he has served on the Rock of Ages National Dealers Advisory
council for several years. He has worked on some of the most important restoration
and memorial projects in the country. Some of his work includes the Congressional
Medal of Honor in Valleyforge, PA, the Columbus, Gahanna, Groveport, and Grove
city police memorials, the Columbus State Christopher Columbus statue, as
well as creating 3 eternal flame memorials to name just a few. Today, we are
a thriving business stressing extraordinary quality, first class service and
outstanding value to our customers.
